What’s wrong with poetry?

what goe's on in someone's mind is subjective but people with the power to publish or back a new poet must go with there instincts sometimes without following a set formula of profittability at times.

No matter what publishing universe you exist in, publishers won't touch someone who can't proof read.

Well, there's no profitability in poetry really. Most people publish because they love poetry. Again their instincts have to be based on something. What makes a poem out of the box? Is it because the poet says it is?

Okay then isn't everyone out of the box? That definition seems too loose to me. Shouldn't the poet be able to go to any poem of theirs and say here's why it's innovative, and break it down? I don't tend to hear that done often in these types of discussions.

It can't happen when the "innovation" is accidental, born of ignorance of any convention rather than a conscious effort to break rules with a purpose.

it may be a loose term to you but in the context i put it in ,not so...i think poetry has a place in this world and while it remains obscure to most...someone may come along one day and put it out there were it appeals to so much more.

Yeah too loose for me. Schools of poetry are built by innovators. When they're in place though anyone can say why they were innovative.

Lowell: confessional

Pound: imagist

Pavlic: deep image

There's a logic to it.

We'll probably just disagree on this point.

Trolls are getting harder to spot. They used to have standards of wit. That's a hell of a pretty song Smile

today kids can recite rap an songs....one day a poem will come along that most will understand and appreciate...one day

This argument has become rather cyclical. One minute you want innovation and people thinking out of the box, the next minute you want a poem that everyone appreciates -- ie. a whole new box.

That's not creativity, that's shifting the status quo.

Most people know of Frost, Poe and Whitman.

I'd say nearly everyone I know appreciates Poe, poet or not.
