to living, to life?
there certainly is for me, but; and i may be stretching the but, is it really worth the trouble. the old adage, you can't take it with you kicks in and even if you spent it all before the end, was it worth it? he sex most definite was and the food but really was it worth it? i want and feel i have to say the kids were worth it but even then i'm not sure.
thoughts on the matter please.

Wow, this is pretty deep.
I think there's a point to life, in the sense that we (mankind) decided there was. All our art, literature, music, culture, scientific discoveries, are all pretty much of benefit to only to ourselves, once placed against the greater scheme of the universe. We think there's a point, so that kind of becomes the point
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

isn't that like saying "we believe in god so god exists?
are we that good? or does the point only have to mean something to us for it to exist. lets say i drop a boulder on your head. will i have taken anything from you. your life? how will you know? and if you say you'll know because you have an afterlife in heaven or somewhere else then didn't i do you a favour. if you're in hell didn't i do everyone else a favour.
it's like the concierge telling you you can't go in without a tie on. does it matter if you wear a tie or not or are some people just so tied up in their own importance that they believe what they say matters.

Fair point . Okay, so if that doesn't count then i guess there really is no meaning to life, outside of feeling good while we still have it and even then that is of no universal consequence whatsoever

jack sometimes talks about nihilism through his poetry. i'm just playing devil's advocate here (i'm normally a happy soul )
isn't he right. if nihilism's what i think it is. why bother.

isn't he right. if nihilism's what i think it is. why bother. One of the greatest and most simplistic aids to psychological contentment is my own dual-meaning mantra, " Nothing really matters"
Though I choose for this to mean whatever I want it to mean to suit the circumstance ( I.e. the concept of zero or nothingness) it works on many levels.

i think there's a point as long as have people i can love. not care for mind, but love.
other tank that everything else is just a bonus. that said, i have no idea what the point is

I'm very happy and content but I don't really believe any of this matters. But, then, I don't care. I'm enjoying it. I enjoy many pointless things - I am a very indulgent, pleasure-centered person. I don't care about a lot of things (I would like to see myself as somewhat carefree) and the things I do care about tend to be matters of people and the planet.
I think the only thing people should really focus on as being worthy of care is their own happiness and life, and ensuring the continuation of the happiness and lives of others. But nothing really matters.
If it wasn't for that mantra I think I'd have gone a bit crazy by now.
I would say I have nihilistic views but I still place a value on life based on the emotions I feel for people.

It's a pointless question. You only ever see the point when you're not really looking for it, you've to screw up one eye, left or right, doesn't matter, concentrate hard looking in one direction and then just slyly glance out the corner of your other eye and you might catch a glimpse of the point. It doesn't always work for everybody. But that's beside the point.
Before criticising a person, try walking a mile in their shoes. Then when you do criticise them, you're a mile away.....and you have their shoes.

i'm not saying put an end to anything.
i wan't to live till i'm 2 or 3 hundred. but most of us (me included) say we're happy and now and again if i try to quantify it i can't. why the fuck am i happy, what have i got to be happy about, i'm going to die (eventually) are animals happy (contented doesn't cut it, a carrot could for all we know be contented) why are you happy...or sad or anything. we live we die. one eye or the other open or closed we die.
