This is pretty cool. Scientists have developed a solid polymer, called SupraB, that is able to heal itself when broken or cut. Simply by holding two pieces together, the new type of plastic repairs itself, bonding together without the need for glue. It is also just as strong as other forms of plastic.
Aside from the obvious application of making everyday objects easily repairable, such as the frames of your reading glasses or even a car's chassis, researchers hope that the material could lead to new scratch resistant coatings for vehicles, laptops and other portable equipment.
Lots of great applications for such an invention!

Hi Addy - I'm surprised that the inventors of this haven't been quietly eliminated...just imagine the panic in the industries which make plastic stuff, they will all go out of business if no one needs to buy replace broken items.
(I forgot for a moment that people throw away perfectly serviceable things and replace them simply because they have this desire for new things - so perhaps they may be allowed live to tell the tale)

Wow, i didn't even think of that... there are lots of companies who will spend top dollar to quietly shuffle this invention out into oblivion

What's not mentioned is a major problem they haven't solved:
It can "repair" itself in many more wrong places than right.
Put your cellphone too close to your pen and you've made
yourself a cellpen (or is it penphone?).

I think that Qmilch is an amazing thing....just as long as the milk isn't snatched from the mouths of the hungry ones of this world....think of the farmers from poor countries who are now growing bio-fuels instead of food.

sad but true. The way the world's food supplies are managed is uneven, with diversity and sustainability thrown out the window... heck, even in the US a lot of farmers aren't growing food (in the strict sense).
Still, bio-based technology like that is pretty exciting, if it delivers on its promise

The only problem I have with bio-fuels is that the world has a problem feeding its citizens as it is without burdening the soil with 'fuel-growth.' With so many starving do we have room in the ground for more?
