A Nursery Rhyme rewritten by DATA from Star Trek
Attend to your auditory channels!
Attend to your auditory channels!
The canine of the species
is ululating here
since mendicants
are arriving
in the metropolis, I fear
Attired in the vestiges
Of previously possessed vestments
And miniscule remnant particles
Of loom-woven articles
And one individual in style
in a garment of closely woven fabric
with short, soft nap or pile!
Do you know which one this is?

I can't remember who or what DATA was...so have missed a lot to start with. Distracted from the get-go by recollections of Lt Ohura. That is v witty and ingenious. (Spelling is 'minuscule' with two 'u's, tho').
I have spent about 20 mins trying to figure which one -- it is on the tip of my mind, but just won't come!

Abus, Well blow me down...all my life I've spelled 'miniscule' like this, why did no one tell me I was wrong? Guess what? I've just used a Spellchecker thingy and it said 'miniscule' is correct, and then I put in 'minuscule' and the Spellchecker said....wait for it....this is correct! Over to my Webster's Dictionary...damn, I lost Webster says 'minuscule'.
Mark....what can I say? I shall remain dumb and see what others say.

But shall I ever overcome the shame of not getting your riddle? I kept thinking of 'Hark, hark!' but then dopily my mind ran off into 'the lark', some old piece of Lieder-singing. I have it now, but shall let others mull.

Yeah guys I didn't see any need to spoil the surprise. By the way, Jill, nice way to give us something to think about. I think you may have inspired a future thread for The Pig's Arse

Shall I reveal all? I don't think anyone else is going to try to guess.
Hark! Hark!
The dogs do bark
The beggars are coming to town
Some in rags and some in tags
And one in a velvet gown.
(An English Nursery rhyme perhaps not known outside the UK. Something to do with the dissolution of the monasteries leading to a load of ex-monks wandering around expecting to be fed and watered...not sure who the velvet gowned one is supposed to be)
So, Mark, as first correct guesser, gets the Kewpie doll. Congratulations, Mark)

Damn you, Mark, I want my Kewpie doll back. (After-thought, how can you google something I wrote?)

The repeated first line was my first point of reference. I Googled poetry with 'ears' or 'listen' repeated in the opening. Then I added a canine reference to the search and got 'Hark! Hark! The dogs do bark.' Google is my favorite

By the way, I 've never heard of this nursery rhyme before.
