It's not so bad to want another drink
A temporary respite from the day

It doesn't really matter what I think
As long as odor from me doesn't stink
And when the pressures on i find a way

It's not so bad to want another drink
And those who know can find it with a wink
Our mannerisms give up what we say

It doesn't really matter what I think
Response is hard to get beyond a blink
But I don't really care to make you stay

It's not so bad to want another drink
As long as my face isn't in the sink
And letting my disgrace sit on display

It really doesn't matter what I think
But every day goes by I'm on the brink
Of madness keeping the break downs at bay

It not so bad to want another drink
It doesn't really matter what I think
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches

A Quick Stop

What am I supposed to do after work?
Have a conversation with my wife in the kitchen?
It’s not like I’ll listen.
I’ll be justifying my addiction,
And with full conviction,
I’ll tell myself that it’s just one beer,
To relax my shoulders.
I’ll be able to focus
On the importance
Of this beautiful life I live.
The one right here, that will become fully clear
After I have just one beer.
A quick stop at the bar,
It’s not that far,
I swear.
Then I’ll be able to bear
The noise in this room–
And this house,
And the nagging that’s constantly coming out of your mouth.
Because I’m tired.
So, it’s just one.
I promise.

The Club

It was fun, the Club
back before
“alcohol deglamorization.”

Sunday mornings
very slow after
“champagne brunch”

after which
in the nearly empty main bar
there was free pinball
and dollar Bloody Marys
or was it dollar-an-hour pinball
and free Bloody Marys?

Can’t quite remember
but
good times.

Bars in Italy open in the morning,
serving coffee, whereas here
cafés are only open noon to night
and rarely do they ever right their drinks
with shots of grappa.

What we call bars, they call discotheques,
and I've no clue what either serve, how either are, because
here in the Philippines, either you choke on smog,
you drain your wallets booking cabs, or you
drive wherever you wish to go,

there are no trains, the cities are far too dense,
and jeepneys rarely shut their windows,
whereas I've never been to Italy: I only dream

of having espresso every eighth of a day
while navigating a government careless and confused
in all too same a way.
