Locked Out
wallpaper patterns
begin to swirl
-- entering the vortex
Locked in a secure ward
a medicated occupant
tilts his head back
to compensate for eyeballs
rolling up into vacant skull.
Mouth begins to gape and drool
drips down disgustingly
until the nurse comes along
to realign and start again.
I can't sit
with the others anymore
-- it upsets them
wae aye man ye radgie

How much does a window cost
Not as much as being lost
Near the wild wood at night
Not a solitary light
Shadow figures creeping by
In my mind they're asking why
Did you leave your keys inside
Nowhere to run nowhere to hide
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches

Twist-Resist
Key binds, cut brass teeth bite
steel pins, sprung reluctant
tiny turn to right, refused,
negotiating leftward, rattle,
push in deeper, stopped, no progress
pull out, no, stopped by each pin
already set.
I hate this lock
on my front door. It’s been re-keyed
to no avail. And now it’s raining...
I give up. I’ll go in by
the car’s lift-door. Full-automatic
it’s got buttons, combination
I remember. Often works
the first time.
Whoa!
Door-key turned brass-slidingly;
bolt disengages and I’m in.
Only took a little threat
to go bypass it. Now I’m ready
to pull out recalcitrant
infuriating key and it
won’t budge.

(This post was last modified: 11-11-2024, 08:10 PM by RiverNotch.)
the doors are shut,
so too the windows,
and the walls are built
of adamant,
the roof so dense
a net of thatch
an endless count
of lifetimes spent
to dig through will not crack,
the floor is bottomless:
whose house is this
anyway?

Locked Out
I'm just a guy
in love with a girl.
Something special
in this mixed up world.
She says the same-
least, that's what I heard.

driving with ghosts
of two of my brothers
as they ride along
in small wooden boxes
for one it's the wind
the other the river
I made a promise
and I will deliver
