Where do the newbs go?

They post once and never again. It's like critiquing the work of the deceased. Perhaps educational for the living?

Meh, it's the internet, you should have seen the hit-and-runs before the three critique entry fee. Smile

It's impossible to tell who will stick, it's the way of the pen to give, the return comes even if it's not from those we've given to.

I don't worry about it. Thumbsup Hysterical

Some people write a poem on a whim then forget it and never return again.

But, then you have to promise to be my slave, come when I call and effervescently compliment me on all my work. Big Grin Big Grin

Why do you want to own slaves for? Seems highly immoral.

Hmmm... The Olympics starts on Friday though.

Olympics first, slavery second. Sorry it's just the way that I was brought up.  Cool

See, that's just not slave talk, Ambrose. Undecided Maybe you should start considering other opportunities for indenturedness.

some people just like to populate every site on the net with their poetry, it's often that great that they just have to get it out there.

Yeah, I can see that. I just don't understand not wanting to come back and at least look at the comments. Why just post and leave something? It's a community -- if you don't want to talk poetry, why come here. Just send it out to sea in a bottle, if you just want to get it out there.

Whatever, to each their own. I just hate seeing everyone waste their time commenting on threads that have obviously been abandoned.

not being bothered what people think of one's work is all part of the poetry narcissistic nature.

On the other hand, nothing's nobler than a wasted pursuit. I made that up. But the great mathematician GH Hardy thought that the best mathematics was pointless mathematics. He was greatly distressed that his wok was being used to build better blast furnaces. The best crit is the crit that is never read, and weddings are bliss for those who've never wed.

...

What makes you think they don't come back and look at the comments?
I think they come back, read the comments, and run away in a state of shock.

Because they've realized how wretched their poetry really is?
No, they're in shock to find so many people with bad taste.
