Billy McGuinty's Ghost
#1
Old Billy McGuinty was the local toast
he filled up his pub with stories of ghosts.
A lonely lover that roamed the moors
and followed you home after doors.

But Billy's punters grew tired of his tales
and started to drink in the Prince of Wales.
His pub was empty sept ugly Jack Strand
it was then that Billy thought of his plan.

He rang up the brewer ordered extra beer
his days were over trading on fear.
He needed a miracle something real good
and that was the night Virgin Mary wept blood.

If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out

that's the punchline, but i failed to get it.
there's the allusion to virgin mary statues weeping blood, but the only connection i can think of between that an a pub, is a pun on 'bloody mary'. however, that makes sense only if the pub were serving virgin marys earlier...which they would never have done.
Huh

Hi Ronsaik
The premise of the poem is that he wants to get his punters back so his next new scam is one that will get people coming from miles around to see, I guess its not much of a punch line if it needs explaining, Now what can I get you to drink Smile

:-) yeah....I got that, but I was expecting a second, punnier connection. Eg. He could have thought of a hundred different hoaxes, but decided on the weeping virgin. Why? The Bloody Mary pun. He serves Bloody Marys. Also, would work if he's Scottish.
if the pun wasn't intended, then I was thinking too far ahead!!
That's what happens if you watch too much tv.

I'll have a nice, cold peroni thank you.  Thumbsup
