I've spent a lot of time looking at pictures
Desensitizing myself to the webs
We can sit in proximity without killing
Mutual distaste, or taste, for insects.
The biggest spider I ever saw in person
Bright yellow, making home between
My garage and my car door.
Careful not to touch, to stir,
Reversing slowly until the string snaps
I felt bad, but the next day it was back.
Once again slowly reversing until their home
Disappears. And again a third day, but
This time attached to the ground beside the car.
I was proud, maybe we could be friends.
But when I came home, once again it was gone.
Was it killed, did it leave for better hunting
I think about it from time to time.
Just another thing.
