Recent chat about this prompt got the wheels turning. Death was a brilliant choice, for me it needs to be in the past, had it not happened it would not be death but removing the option for "ed" pulls death into the present where, of course, everything exists. 42, ha. The chat also reminded me bad poems happen, so I wrote one.

us not by option
but with a drag,
a pull, a yank
into a distant unknown.
I know you didn't detach
of your own volition,
too thoughtful, too kind
to do so. Still, my dispatch
to you finds only a wink,
a nod.
My cry for aid gains
only a knowing grin.
