I think it's like any poetry, or art in general for that matter -- there's good stuff, bad stuff, good stuff that we don't particularly like, bad stuff that appeals to us anyway...

Poetry is, as far as I'm concerned, supposed to be heard as well as read -- so I don't really see spoken word as a separate entity. I love Henry Rollins with an unholy passion and go along to see him whenever he's in Australia, plus I go to poetry readings when time permits (though some poets I'll only go and see once, and wish I hadn't!).

Still, the chances of someone taking sarcasm seriously is higher when it's written. Then that person will look like a fool, which is embarrassing.

Dear Leanne, I think it (sarcasm) is overrated. I agree, it has some impact on people easily impressed on first impact. But after having reflected upon outbursts of sarcasm several times, I often thought , it is rather childish, isn't it?
But ok, I give it to you, some people are that easily satisfied that superficially. So why not? If it makes you feel good, by any means, go for it.

Seriously and this to Arriedo: The spoken word, the voice, adds an additional layer to the art of using language in unusual and therefore possibly artful ways. But that is a commonplace. To me all human utterances amount to the same: getting into contact, be it grunting (voice), splashing( creating forms and colors (colors being forms touched by light), and touching bodies.
