do you do it, if so why.
i usually tip, even if there's a surcharge. (yes, i'm a sucker) i just feel that the surcharge will mainly go in the owner's pocket (here in the philippines) and have a need to show my thanks to courteous service. that said, if the service is shit i don't tip.

It's a personal thing, sometimes I do depending on circumstance. Tip for the day: don't back slow horses or take out fast women!
Oh what a wicket web we weave!

I wouldn't know -- if the service is so rubbish that I'm not moved to leave at least a bit of a tip, I just don't go back.
It could be worse

Ah, ambiguous tipping situations. If the service is decent I'll tip, out of courtesy and appreciation. If the service isn't so good, but they weren't outright mean or anything I'll still tip but I won't feel happy about it
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Yep, I tip,but it bugs me because when I am doing the books for a restaurant,I see the 18.30 per hr basic rate 18yo's get paid in qld. (more for sat, and even more for sunday)And then they expect a 10-15% tip on top ....the tip is mostly not earned, if the service is very bad I just round up to the next 10, even if it's only a $2 tip. It is my silent protest. The ONLY city I have visited to date where tips are seriously deserved is New York, it's no wonder they give out about service in other countries, BUT the wait staff get paid a pittance and actually work for tips....it seems to make all the difference to level of service

it's the same as new york in the uk (bad wages) unless it's a silver service restaurant. 18.50 a lot, i always thought of them being paid a pittance.
