So now that the site is fully passworded all that is visible if you haven't logged on is this How To Use The Pen forum, not even the hello and info. So now, even though the site has had at least a hundred new threads posted in the last few months with multiple replies on each, when not logged in it looks like the last post was in 2015.
So now, my suggestion is that any member who would like to might start a simple fun thread here so at least we don't look like we're dead and dismembered.
Or, you are welcome to muck up this one.

Well...that's one point of view of several points of view, all valid, as billy once said.
The reality is that this site exists in a time bubble, something to do with the internet having grown complicated enough to start generating its own laws of nature. Next week we'll have Will Shakspar drop in for a fireside chat. The funny thing is, we sent him an invite and he responded with six RSVPs, ihcluding one from Francis Bacon (they all said 'I am the real Shakespeare - don't believe the rest').

I knew I could count on you. We'll have to book a bigger room.

oh no! i keep forgetting my password to certain things, and this is one of them! now i won't be able to view things in advance on my phone (that is, when it's too late to have the computer still on, but my brain's still running) --- that is, unless i change my password or something, which is easy enough, but come on! so many wasted minutes ---- xD

So many things to associate with the Pigpen, I'm sure you can come up with something memorable.

I hear the real Shakespeare is working as one of the rhyme-makers (or whatever the heck you call them) of Chuck D now.....

Don't care at all for not being able to see things w/o logging in. I used to look all the time on my phone. Now I don't.
Just my three cents worth.

now that the site is partially closed unless we're logged in, i'm no longer being threatened by my hosting company to have have the site throttled [a forcible slowing down] with a chance of periods that put us off line. i've been advised my only other option is to purchase the use of a personal server on a monthly basis which works out a couple of thousand dollars a year. as a matter of principle i don't allow google ads and i don't accept donations under any circumstances, because of this i have to think of the majority of the site and the sites uninterrupted running. so far the actions taken have saved me from upgrading the sites hosting plan and lowered, if not completely curtailed any throttling. i know when i use my phone to see the site i can use the stay logged on function while at the same time use the same function on my table top pc to automatically stay logged into the site. i do offer my apologies for any inconvenience caused.
as an example here's three ips's almost simultaneously trying to register in order to read every page and post on the site. [they're called bots and spiders] because of our new policy, they can no longer pass the registration process when they try. notice how the cluster of last numbers are different. and the times between each one's attempt. similar things happen by the hour and they slow the site down enough that the hosting site threatens us.

i spend most of my spare time checking such things so that the site runs as fast and as smoothly as possible, and to make sure innocent would be members aren't refused membership. i have before now made mistakes and banned admin and others; thankfully we were able to resuscitate them .

I'm fully supportive of the actions taken, billy. I just stay logged in on chrome at home and on my iPad when I'm out. It's not hard, and the site runs better.
It could be worse

I don't have any problem staying logged on on a phone, pad, laptop and two desktops at the same time. HOW DID I GET HERE? (David Byrne)
May I take this opportunity, billy, to kiss your little piggie hooves for keeping the site going.

Oh, I understand why you did what you did. I just don't like staying logged into all my sites. Personal choice. I won't die or anything. Carry on.
