Professor Suspended After Joke About Killing Students on Facebook
I mean, is this fair? Do bosses have the right to look over your personal life. Sure they took the joke seriously but isn't it invasion of privacy?
So were they right by firing her for steaming it off on fb?

Joke or not he holds a position that requires a certain public persona. JMO

people have to be very careful what they say and put in these sites.
for once i have to agree with benny and say if a person puts a bad light on their company in a public place. or if as vfog says, talks of hate crime even in jest. they should be sacked. we can't know whats a joke and what isn't simply by reading text on a page.
i'd have sacked her.

Better fix that wardrobe malfunction just in case.
To be honest I think facebook is a bit too much. Everyone wants to know what else everyone is doing... But how many times have you said "I wish my boss would just die/f*ck off/[insert offensive occasion here]" just because you're a tiny bit fed up? I think she underestimated how nosy the facebook community is.
I just don't think bosses should monitor employees lives so much these days......

While it is true that many companies check out public forums to see what/how you may have been writing in the past I don't think you should have to look over your shoulder all the time either or be fired for something you may have written years ago that has nothing to do with the present circumstances.
By the way shame on you guys for banning Scruffy!
Seriously.
C.B.
you mean shame on me then. i did the dead because of not only taking out of the sewer but basically telling people not to come here and join.
and as far as i know his ban will never be lifted.
i agree if you wrote something that has no bearing on where you work now then what you say or how you act shouldn't matter.
my mistake. i got talked into lifting the ban ....me bad sorry. i wanted him perma banned the other softies spoke out for him.

i'd say most of the stuff thats said on the net is more often reported to the boss by someone who wants to cause trouble.
