thanks in advance
first off, great to see you posting
as to your question;
It's better to write what you want, than to be forced by convention to right one way or another. That said, which ever way you write, try and do it to the best of your ability, always be open to feedback.
if using end rhyme, make sure the rhyme scheme sticks to the rhyme scheme. try not to force the rhyme. i prefer internal rhyme, though i've done a few rhyming poems.
when using end rhyme try and make the syllable count constant.
8 syls in one line 6 syls in the 2nd. or a different variation.
you have to me sure the poem flows all the way to that last word.
for non rhyming poetry it's the same. try and get some internal rimes going. or no rhyme at all, just do it the best you can and always keep that need to improve inside you. don't ever think a poems perfect, very few are
so in a nut shell. it's all down to preference. if rhymes your style do rhyme. you can you can still try your hand with different forms if you want to.
hope to see some of your poems soon
