From the outside, America is living a golden age
The economy is booming like never before. Not even in the Clinton years.
I see how much people are making in the US for similar jobs in the rest of the west and it’s no contest. And outside of New York and San Francisco, property isn’t that expensive.
This is partly due to a post covid recovery, but it’s also due to Biden. He will go down in history as one of the best presidents America had, taking over after the debacle of Covid and January 6. Too many people have already forgotten what Covid was like.
His hamartia was not stepping aside to make way for someone more charismatic and younger. Buttigieg, if he wasn’t gay, was the only serious contender for the job. But being gay in America, it’s a write off. I also can’t imagine a gay head of the US sitting down with the Arabs and Afghans and Angolans to talk business. The butt jokes would scupper any deal. The Belarusian president wouldn’t even shake hands.
Say what you can about Trump, but he’s been there done that. Gold looking in his youth, well over six feet, born rich, wrote a bestseller, had multiple model wives, many children, doesn’t touch alcohol, beat the odds twice. That makes him the greatest western world human since Henry VIII. Or maybe Diocletian. Greater than these.
Ive heard horror stories about the state of American cities these days, all tied to the constant flow of illegals immigrants. All DJT needs to do is plug that gap and the good life will continue for some time. I don’t think any society has been as fortunate as America in the post Covid era. The Clinton years had terrible music. They don’t come close.
So if you’re American and reading this, you’re incredibly lucky. Good wishes for the next four years.

As Bismarck put it, "God looks after drunks, babies, and the United States of America." Though He does have a wicked sense of humor about it, sometimes.

Assuming you voted for Trump, do you agree that Biden did a splendid job with the economy?
Inflation is a worldwide problem thanks to covid handouts. It’s not restricted to America.
But America is growing faster than any other developed country. A population of 300 mn and one of the highest per capita GDPs is incredible

Future historians, knowing even more of the truth about Biden's time in office than we do already, are unlikely to share your evaluation. Paul Johnson characterized the Ford-Carter years as "America's suicide attempt." We may hope the iteration ending now precedes an even better age than that one did.

Not sure how 'history' is going to erase what occurred during the Biden administration since it's just facts. Such as the fact that Biden inherited a damaged economy that was under tremendous inflationary pressures. It is untrue that the covid handouts were responsible for global inflation. The majority of the pressure came from post pandemic supply chain bottle necks, the war in Ukraine, and generalized labor shortages. For two years everyone was predicting a recession that never happened. Instead the Biden administration brought down inflation producing the best two years of market growth in a quarter century. Trump's only articulated economic strategies are massive tax cuts for already wealthy people and imposing tariffs, which he either has no idea of how they work or he's relying on the ignorance (or lazy rationalizing) of his constituents. Both of which will likely lead to increased inflation. Wages are out pacing inflation for the first time in almost a generation. In fact, with a smidge of research, one might learn that the American economy quite reliably does better under democrat rule. Just simple facts that history can't rewrite. All of the roads in my area, and I mean all of them have been repaved in the last two years. American cities are not awash in crime and the crime there is isn't made worse by the problem of illegal immigration. There is no known correlation between illegal immigrants and worsening crime. The only studies that have been done show that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes relative to native born. The rest of the noise is just political fear mongering of the most degenerate kind. In fact the issue at the southern boarder is better now than it was when trump was in office. Paul Johnson is a conservative historian whose opinion on any issue really doesn't matter more than anyone else's so let's get back to the facts as Busker noted; the American economy is the envy of the world.

Quote:If we learned anything from COVID and, before that, global temperature tracking, it's that numbers are routinely bent to support narratives.
Only on Foxnews, but don’t let education and science get in the way of a good rant
EDIT?? Very interesting. I did not post this item, but it quotes an item I *did* post but was subsequently envanished by mistake (not mine)... which I tried to reconstruct infra. And this item is displaying as if I wrote it (originally) and let me edit it. I *could* create a post that looks that way, but in this case, I did not. <strong odor of aquatic life that's been out of its element too long>Analysis: someone attempting to reply to the vanished post instead dropped his reply into the index of the post on which he was trying to comment. </strong odor of aquatic life that's been out of its element too long> Things like this do happen on the system - for example, if you post two replies one after the other they end up concatenated in one entry. Probably a software glitch.
P.S. I would never write "Foxnews" (sic).

Cutting a bit deeper, I wonder what I'm seeing.
Everything is numbers and statistics, all subject to noble cause corruption and duly corrupted. What is the actual rate of inflation, approval or disapproval of public figures and parties, gross domestic product, consumer sentiment or temperature of the earth? All the numbers are massaged like Kobe beef to support a narrative. COVID should have taught us not to trust experts flashing statistics - if global temperature follies hadn't already.
How bad is it? Democrat pollsters got their numbers wrong in 2024 because they bent them to fit their narrative. Republicans got the numbers right - but was that because their techniques were better, more honest (not the same thing), or the way they bent their numbers to fit happened to fit reality?
Pilate asked, "What is truth?" Truth is what happens. All else is commentary.

Sorry, Duke, that’s my bad. I appear to have misunderstood a maintenance request and consequently have created a new conundrum rather than solving the original. Sincere apologies to all involved. Let me know if you want me to try again.

Religious freedom! As long as you believe.
First time I've heard anyone in the government discuss extra-constitutional means. Freedom, as long as you believe.

America has been grabbed by the pussy and is afraid to report it.
At least one of the predators will get whacked shortly.
Armed insurgents will start popping up where peaceful demonstrations used to be.
