Pigmas 2023 28 December
#1
You'll probably see the one for the sixth day come very close to this one, as this one came pretty late xD Sorry about that, and thanks for the patience/support.

Fifth day of Pigmas! Taking into account some of the feedback in the opening thread, ye respondents may follow one of three tiers:
(1 - GOLD) Write a sonnet based on the day's prompt. The final goal is to produce something approximating a crown of sonnets!
(2 - FRANKINCENSE) Write a poem of a particular form based on the day's prompt. The final goal is to produce something approximating a crown of that form.
(3 - MYRRH) Write a poem on the day's prompt based on your choice of poem from the previous day's prompt, making sure it's the same form as the poem you're responding to.

Today's prompt:
Write a poem involving death by burning.

The lump in my throat is swallowing pride
Day after day all my prayers are denied
I'm clenching my beads and hoping good deeds
Have been the only things santa God spied
I can hear the other people stirring
The cat in my lap also stopped purring
I twiddle my fingers, time just lingers
Vents down the hall in the bathroom whirring
All this waiting has my mind about broke
I wonder if I have enough time for a smoke
Minutes off my life, I'll go ask my wife
But as I pass my daughters room, she spoke.
The lump in my throat is swallowing pride
Listening in, I may need a new guide
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches
