The crucifixion was a chore
for the Roman soldiers
picked that day,
probably not your cream of the crop legionnaires
on duty.
They killed by example
like so many still do.
My chore is less bloody,
to clean a cat box,
and I choose Taking Tiger Mountain
to accompany me
instead of legionaries.
Both leave an empty desert behind.

The Loud Button
I poke it with
the rubbery tip
of my telescoping rod
and she calmly
though falsely responds,
“FIRE. FIRE.”
Accompanied by frantic electronic shrieks
at rock-concert decibels.
Then to add spice and variety
to this command performance
she alters lyrics to
“WARNING. CARBON MONOXIDE.”
Also repeated and re-echoed
by her networked sister
fire-and-smoke detectors
when I poke their
hard-to-hit test buttons
on my ceiling.
Then their lights
turn green and all is well
until next week
unless a smoky fry-up intervenes.

A Household Chore
My maid has had the day off sick
And left me high and dry.
I push the mop around the floor,
Wishing the floor would die.
I hit some buttons on a thing.
The thing it does rebel.
I grab my phone and find my coat—
I’m booking a hotel.

Not another Poem about Depression and Anxiety
it's only
two forks, two plates, a salad bowl and a frying pan, but it may as well be Kilimanjaro, and will need to be
chopped down
to where she can climb it
one fork at a time
one plate
one bowl
one pan
before he gets home to dirty dishes
and asks her what the fuck she's been doing all day
