On the third day of Christmas, the Pig Pen gave to me
three French towns,
two bare fists,
and a lampstand nearly all lit!
According to the Revised Julian calendar, it's St. Stephen's day! Or Saint Etienne in French....respond to a song by one of my favourite bands, Saint Etienne, through verse.
Yes, this one's a heck of a stretch xD
Add.: When I wrote this prompt, I forgot they had a song called "I Was Born on Christmas Day". Oh well xD

Proto-martyrs stalk the aisles
of Heaven’s only Dollar Store,
looking to stock up on blood-stained stones.
Fire and brimstone are impossible
to keep on the shelf.
And there’s a spill of saint’s blood
in aisle 9. I can’t remember
why I took this job, or if it’s even a job
but instead a clever form of damnation.
I guess I’ll find out when payday comes.

Why would Stephen accept the offer?
Judas was dead, and they needed a 12th man.
Stephen, the bravest among them
stepped up first against the council
broken by stones and murdered right away.
An outsider, showing the insiders what to do
and how to do it. 12 men, who from the beginning
couldn't believe, accept, comprehend their calling.
Why would he do it? What was his motive?
The others knew they had no choice now.

Thanks Mark. If so, it's desperation. RiverNotch is posing some challenging prompts.
