I used to be a movie aficionado.
There are a lot of factors to weigh
for what makes a bad movie.
Some are so bad they become great.
Some just get completely forgotten.
I find some universally loved movies unwatchable.
I have 4 compilation DVDs of 60 horror films.
Those are the worst.  And yet, I've seen them all

a moving picture, the static image

then the moving images began to speak,
and music came to thread together the images
that spoke to us, until the experience
became more real, more beautiful

I've heard this about a famous director who believed it was like witnessing god, because of the sheer number of people and events that all have to come together so precisely to make the piece of art.

Exactly, that's something missing from my take.  When you think about how many people have to come together and do a good job of it, it is amazing that a good film ever gets made.

One of my favorite movies, Ravenous, lost its director before shooting began, and someone else had to step in at the last minute, and they had only the vaguest idea about what the film was about, and it still came out marvellous.  Boggles the mind.

Perhaps the worst movie of all time
was also one of the first: 
D. W. Griffith's Birth
of a Nation which portrayed
Ku-Klux Klan as heroes,
blacks as vilely as one can conceive
and Lincoln’s assassination
in a way that Woodrow Wilson,
rabid racist unsurpassed,
declared ex cathedra “as it was.”

Yet Nation also birthed
in shocking maturity
each cinematic trick, trope, and technique
the form has ever since deployed–
an entire art, its natal masterpiece
in service to a lie.

Cliche romance topped
with french poetry brunette
who changes a cynical man
into a close quarters dancer.

An existential concept
juxtaposes the lighthearted romp,
and the feel good victory lap cheats
the underlying omen.

A sinister flick indeed--

Excellent job!  I read the Wikipedia article about this film, thinking I might do a poem about it myself, but the more I read, the less I wanted to do it.  But you've hit the high/low points with exceptional concision.

It's so weird, right?! Same thing with Gone with the Wind -- Lord have Mercy but I love Gone with the Wind, even as it's dawned on me (a non-American) just how *racist* that movie is -- Leslie Howard's character is a literal hero in the story for being a Klansman xD

**Groundhog Day** is a bit sinister, but that's why it works, I think -- a deep, existential question posed using a cheap, almost disposable analogy. Like a pop song which in its pointed simplicity stumbles into being a poem.

**Mrs. Doubtfire** though....well it's at least notable for being a relatively early divorce movie where the family isn't broken up *and* the dad and mom don't get back together, but, yeah, there's something, idk, *awkward* about the whole thing that always drew me away from it.

Weird how that happens, huh? Art holds more impact when it's themes are unintentional. At least to me.



Mrs doubtfire is weird because its about a full grown man, stalking his family, dressed as their maid. What in the actual fuck.
Ironically, the plot has untintentional themes as well.

"One day, Daniel quits his job following a disagreement over a morally questionable script and returns home to throw a chaotic birthday party for Chris, despite Miranda's objections. "

The National Socialists had Riefenstahl
for The Blue Light, Olympia,
and Triumph of the Will

while all these Christian Nationalists produce
are God's Not Dead, Fireproof,
and Saving Christmas.

Certainly recalling Marx's spectre
and its cheeky take on Hegel
is apropos, if well-trod,

but on such a pearl of wisdom
it's much tougher to deposit
another six million layers

when it's your turn to be the oyster
and Breakthrough ain't half bad.
