Cutting lemons,
Lemons squeeze,
Juice the eyes,
Lemons drop,
Can't stop
Fingers slip
Can't see
The rush is coming
Already in the weeds

parched
I cannot hold it in
Not here
Not now
I breathe through my nose
Slow and deep
Not here
Not now
Time is running out
I am losing my control
Please not here
Why now?
I search desperately
for gum
Or lemon-drop
Anything really
The cough escapes
Tiny
A dry little sound
I freeze
My eyes dart everywhere
I imagine frowns and stares
Suspicions in the air like a cloud
I flee to the safety of my car
And take a hermit’s vow

Lemon Giallo
A brass lemon drops from 10 stories
piercing Mrs. Endpool’s skull.
Ispettore Goccia di Limon knows
the difference between a lemon and a murder.
Both are sour
but the murderer is only after the sugar.
First there was the fashion model
choked on a lemon before it was a drop.
Then the prostitute drowned slowly in a bucket
filled with lemon syrup, drop by drop.
Two schoolgirls found the head
with its eyes removed and polished lemon drops inserted.
The Ispettore prefers cinnamon gum
But now he silently sucks on lemon drops
And haunts the candy and fruit stalls.
They say you don’t hear
the lemon drop with your name on it
and so it was for the Ispettore
as the tart bullet tasted his heart
and he dropped,
lemons spilling from his hands
and rolling down the Via Veneto.

Dying Fall
Bright Flora stares in terror at
a lovely tree with blossoms that
float sweetly on a fragrant breeze
and sink. She should be at her ease
but suitor Death’s not one to please:
he waits to make his courting call
and sometimes doesn’t wait at all.
Warm Flora shivers – flowers fall
that’s part of living, petal pall
but here’s a fruit: life never stops!
She screams as, dead, her lemon drops.

In fear of my childhood
He was the first to leave the womb
curled in stainless-steel
I wondered if we had ever spoken
in that quiet place.
I could feel him at night
stealing light from my candle,
citrus from my lemon drop
feeding on scraps of pleasure
that might have sustained me.
I hear the sound a mind makes
when it takes too much
and mother breaks, leaving
her clothes beside the lake.
He drags himself
across cold tiled floors
following me to nowhere
I close the door and slide the bolt.
My life, my future, finding sunlight
on the other side of childhood
an adult restored in the slaughter
If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out

Do not tell Leo,
When life gives you lemons,
make lemonade!
He'll perform
the lemon-drop
immediately
and smile
as you dissolve.

First comes the lemon and then lemonade, lemon-drops
next come the lemons from which it was made, lemon-drops
and what of the candy - and comes then what next, lemon-drops?
and then candy's lover and all he has sexxed, lemon-drops.
and is that just sugar, all blue and serene, lemon-drops?
that has you there flaccid and blue at your screen, lemon-drops.
and is that plastic wrapper your comfort, your hope, lemon-drop?
and is that just a chair, and is that just a rope, lemon-drops.

A Lemon's drop
Some say an apple, some a lemon's drop
made Newton sit up and think about things -
why the good earth's round, finches need wings,
what men of talent are hidden milksops
to be thrust into shade, a country copse,
there to lament as Philomel, that sook
Leibniz, Edmund Halley, Robert Hooke,
who sold out their businesses, shuttered their shops.
I say more: that unremarkable apple/lemon
drop contained all that came before
and of afterwards, more - Maxwell's demon,
the stones of Giza and El Mirador,
right up to the geometry of Reimann
and pregnant clouds of Los Alamos lore.

She ordered him a lemon drop,
he ordered her a beer.
She didn't have a driver,
he didn't have no fear.
She wouldn't hail no taxi,
he always took the train.
She always liked the way he looked,
he liked her when it rained.
Dry lightning jumped from cloud to cloud,
a devil hit the road.
The dust scared off all witnesses,
the glasses overflowed.

In older age
drunk on hops
I coax my cock
that old cyclops
but only piss
in starts and stops
less steady stream
more lemon drops

Stupor
When edges blur,
bodies on the ground appear
asleep. You breathe the chill
from your lips, watch it rise
in tiny clouds like from a train
puffing down the dark bend
of a crooked track. Shadows
in the distance refuse to coalesce,
and the eyes from above press
your shoulders down, burdened
under an unbearable weight.
Your feet squelch in mud. Nothing seen
can be unseen. The grasshopper
lied about winter, and the lemon drop
proved that life was sour
beneath its sugared rim.
The secret of poetry is cruelty.--Jon Anderson

She would order them in threes;
drink one at the bar
and bring one for me.
Then she'd kiss me with sugar lips
and clink her glass with mine--
and on this particular dance floor
it meant we were even.
