Getting Older

It seems that my only purpose in life
is to irritate my children. My mind drifts,
a sluggish glacier. Every day
this coldness grows. I am numb
to their songs, or their dreams
of being multimillionaire YouTubers.
I tell them that everything new
will be old before they notice. What shines
will dull; what blossoms will fade.
When someone actually follows
them, it will all be gone—replaced.
They glare and speak slower and speak louder,
annunciating each word as if I’ve lost
both hearing and sense. I remember
when I was like them and was comfortable
knowing everything.
The secret of poetry is cruelty.--Jon Anderson

Order, Order!

The opposition opposed
my proposition and took
an opposite stance.
Twas not by chance
my anger was enhanced
I asked, is it perchance
to do with lack of finance?

The chancellor said not
and I cried poppycock,
then pulled out my Glock.
The opposition that opposed
my proposition and took
an opposite stance,
then gave a furtive glance
and agreed to support
my proposition, no longer
in opposition just askance.

If your undies fer you've been smoking through em, don't peg em out

Opposites attract, we’re told–
north and south magnetic poles,
plus and minus in electric
circuits, no-one made that up.
People have their opposites -
I am saturnine,  you’re gay;
you’re popular, I’m solitary,
I’m, well, craggy, you’re a beauty:
I’m attracted... and you’re not.
