Hello poetry lovers, April is coming fast which means it is time to sharpen your pencils and minds, clear your calendars, stock up on liquor and complete all the tasks you want to complete as it is almost that time of year we all look forward to - NaPM!
"What is this?" you ask.
This is the annual even at ThePigPenPoetry.com where we all celebrate poetry by challenging ourselves to write a poem a day for the month of April.
"What should I do?" you ask.
You should respond to this thread signifying yourself as a 30 day indentured servant to me for the arduous task of writing poetry. You should also, if you are feeling particularly inspired, send me ideas for prompts for this year's festivities.
"How will this work?" you ask.
Every day for the month of April, a prompt will be posted to which you will reply with a poem loosely inspired by that prompt. In addition, comments on other poems for the day are strongly encouraged.

Is this nationwide event in the US or just something that happens in the pen?

It is a nationwide event but it has been adopted to be an international event. We celebrate this way yearly at the pen.

National poetry month in Australia is September, but pretty much all we do here is rewrite bush ballads. This is a bit more challenging

Is that a prompt suggestion or are you for some reason asking permission this year?

Wooo! Last one I saw, I only joined by the end -- hope to write for and read from the whole this year!
Question: can I push this tradition to another forum I'm a part of, and when I do that, can I use some of the prompts here?
Second question: Something with the word "lugubrious" http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/10/22/ozy-and-millie-243/ and something based off of a neighbor's pool http://jessemoynihan.com/?p=2438 ?

The "Sewer" is a fine opus. You are never alone. > <

Feel free to share the tradition and the prompts wherever you go. Even better, invite people to participate here as a cross-forum collaboration.

I can't ever seem to write anything in the spring, and last year I had give up the pigpen for the season... so I'm here this year and mildly excited.

I'm in the woohoo category, I want to try some white space writing, some sonnets in rhyme schemes I haven't tried and that form where you include your name in the last line, I've thought about that one but never buckled down. I was playing with triolets a few months ago so maybe I can pull a few off.
Most of them will probably suck, you all have permission to skip over them but I'll be writing and posting them anyway.
