So, I'm thinking on trying out two different schools of poetry (imagist and confessional--I'll add more later):
So for imagist I'm thinking HD, WCw, ?
What are the main works that I should study?
Confessional: I feel a little better on what I should read.
I'm thinking Snodgrass (Heart's Needle), Lowell (Life Studies), Plath (Bell Jar, or Ariel I'm guessing), Sexton (?), John Berryman (?)
Who or what works am I missing?
I was trying to classify by school one of my favorite poets (Louise Gluck). Her early work struck me as confessional. Her later work was tougher to classify it felt slightly imagist. So, I thought maybe go back to the roots and study both schools. I mean you've got to keep studying something.
That was a bit long-winded but I would appreciate any direction.
Thanks
