I think so.
Because these are people who put their money in accounts in Switzerland. Now your common Joe who does the odd "under the table job" does not put his money in Swiss banks. These must've been people that are not poor.
If we look at the numbers in that article: 1500 people (up to) and 140 million lost in tax.
That amounts to over $90k per person. Now these are statistical numbers and we can't de facto prove that it is like this. But my guess is that the details in that disc may concern some very well off people who must pay their tax. Tax is common subject to everyone. People judge poor tax evaders but they are the ones that need help most. And the thing that annoys me is that people who have no monetary problems what so ever are trying to avoid paying the government... Not cool i say
And as mentioned in the article, Germany has done this before. They paid $6 million a few years back for pretty much the same cause. And they got the former head of the postal service (Deutsche Post) and several bank members (again reinforcing the point that money is not a problem for these sorts of people). What did they get out of that? $250 million in recovered revenue. 4000% of $6 million. And I believe that is the right thing to do.
And sure you are paying a criminal. And that is wrong.. But you have to even it out. The reward is much greater! You just have to make sure it should not happen again by getting these lists yourself and not from some criminal who stole them.
