the first book to do that was "the third eye" by Tuesday lobsang rampa. (later to realized for the person he was, i can't recall his name and i refuse to look it up, i do know he turned out to be an Englishman who couldn't talk the Tibetan language nor had he ever been to Tibet) i enjoyed it immensely though. (i was about ten when i read it first)
the second was Hermann Hesse's "the glass bead game. about set in an almost utopian state of another world or time. it's about the beauty of maths and the universe and how everything is connected to everything else. not as heavy as many critics would have us believe. the book follows a student from childhood to adulthood in which he attains the highest position possible amongst his peers.
from it i realized that everything has connections and and nothing is ever truly alone, not even a rock.
