Interesting... so theoretically when the universe inflated it did so such that objects moved away relative to one another at a rate faster than the speed of light. But, as your source said, the speed was achieved relatively, and not a case of something actually transmitting itself from one point in space to another.
We think we're world-wise now, but yeah, I would think that a civilization like that would inspire some significant awe, just because they're able to have "powers" beyond our comprehension. Think of the age of colonialism, where natives got pretty wide-eyed just seeing white-skinned men with shiny armor and guns. The disparity between us and aliens with space-traversing technology would probably be lightyears more extreme (no pun intended)
