All vocabulary is legitimate for poetry but it is the writers responsibility to understand the effects of the language they use and to use it with intent

Nice one - intent! There, I think lies a great secret. The sort of secret, however, that's not kept under wraps intentionally, but simpy will not occur to those who are unprepared.
