This piece starts aggressively excitable but reveals undertones of grief, anger, and indignation. The beginning reads like an irritatingly positive YouTuber trying to get you to click on their video. I read this tone as an overcompensation for the anger/grief the speaker feels at not being able to send the videos to the person. The second half takes a pivot, using the flying fox as a parallel for the late person in question. Precious and tired of being misinterpreted. I love the visual of the sun clinging to its lips. For me, it evokes awe but also raw determination. "He will die before he lets go of that banana." Rather than being painted as a victim or a martyr, the flying fox is described as a creature who knows what it is and what it wants with such certainty that it would rather die than live any other way. And this ties back to the person the speaker is writing to: "You swore they'd never get you wrong again." After which, they presumably made sure of exactly that.
Tragic and powerful and hits close to home.
