Snert is a good word, and a noticeable phenomenon. The lake I’m thinking of is Lake Michigan, so the effect is not clockable. I don’t believe the ***entire*** lake will freeze before Xmas, but I’m hoping to walk on water around the shore areas at least. I like to commit lightly blasphemous thoughts around this time of year. In a “mindlessly thumbing my nose at tradition” sort of way.
