A Quick Stop
What am I supposed to do after work?
Have a conversation with my wife in the kitchen?
It’s not like I’ll listen.
I’ll be justifying my addiction,
And with full conviction,
I’ll tell myself that it’s just one beer,
To relax my shoulders.
I’ll be able to focus
On the importance
Of this beautiful life I live.
The one right here, that will become fully clear
After I have just one beer.
A quick stop at the bar,
It’s not that far,
I swear.
Then I’ll be able to bear
The noise in this room–
And this house,
And the nagging that’s constantly coming out of your mouth.
Because I’m tired.
So, it’s just one.
I promise.
