Today is so much different
from when your gr’uncle grew up
there’s not much advice
he can give you.  But
some things don’t change
so here goes:

Save money.  When you get
a dollar, put ten cents away
not to spend but to keep.
You’ll never miss it and some day
it will prevent your owing
more than you can pay.

Oh, by the way
never get into debt.

Be suspicious of what makes
you feel good, excited or real relaxed
but you need a little more
of it each time.
That’s another kind
of debt
but you can never get enough
tobacco, alcohol, drugs
or gambling rush
to pay it off.
Better not to start.

And one last thing:
when a Texan lady
says “Well, bless your heart,”
think very hard
about what you just did or said
wrong.
