A funny thing happened on the way to Wallace Stevens' later poetry
#38
Rowens,

I came back from New Mexico planning to re-read The Pisan Cantos.  I started, but immediately came down with Covid, so for a week I couldn't read a thing.

As I began to come out of the Covid haze, I decided I'd had enough of Pound for a while.  I wandered past my bookshelves and picked out John Berryman's The Dream Songs.  It's a book I bought 30 years ago and there was a bookmark showing I'd attempted it at some point.

Anyway, I started it again.  I immediately recognized it as a masterpiece.  I was filled with the same kind of awe I used to get after the first few puffs of a marijuana joint, before cannabis was forbidden to me by the Powers That Be.

I'm about 80 songs into it now.  I came here to record my new found scripture and saw that the last thing you wrote to me was to quote the song about Henry's pelt, so now I feel Confirmed.

Later,
TqB
