a step to artificial life

from newspost on line.

this is the whole article so no source.

Catholic Church officials appreciated the work of the scientists terming it has a great scientific discovery and hoped that it is channeled in proper direction, but warned that only God can create life. “If we ascertain that it is for the good of all, of the environment and man in it, we’ll keep the same judgment,” Monsignor Rino Fisichella, the Vatican’s top bioethics official commented and he further added that “If, on the other hand, the use of this discovery should turn against the dignity of and respect for human life, then our judgment would change.” These Reports came in the wake of recent discovery, where scientists successfully created synthetic life in Laboratories with man-made DNA that were capable of replicating itself.
In a research that lasted for close to three years, researchers at the J. Craig Venter Institute created Cells that were able to grow naturally, by inserting artificially created genetic material which was chemically printed and assembled in forced conditions into a cell. Already being termed as the greatest discovery of the century, analysts claim this discovery can have a large effect in the on-going research’s and will now open a whole new genre for exploration and research. It is also being accepted that further research into the field can help create living bacteria that can absorb Carbon dioxide, decompose man-made waste or else create new opportunities in the field of medicine, as the research has a huge potential in future of curing various non-curable diseases. But, the darker part though is, if put in wrong direction it is capable of creating Bio-Hazards and its ability to create Bio-weapons of mass destruction is not being denied. But a proper alignment of it can very well, solve the global problems like – global warming and Food Shortage. What the final results will be only time can tell, but until then the question for now is “Can man really play God?

the church says "if channeled properly" it's a good thing. i agree. thought that said anything channeled properly (for good) is usually a good thing.

the creation thing, i see it this way;

if you don't believe in a god, then for you man has created a synthetic; though it seems real, life.

if on the other hand you believe in god then; man created that same synthetic life through the power of god.

we do create life all the time via the mating ritual. if you have a god then we do it through the power of your god..

either way i can't see it going away, nor can the church it seems and that.s why it's not denouncing something many of it's parishioners may be able to accept.

if anything it's embracing the breakthrough on the proviso it's only used for good. who said the church wasn't smart.

as an aside.;
most of the bacteria we come into contact with is benificial to us. even the bad stuff. it allows us to become resistant to harsher forms.
we have bacteria inside us that again we would die without. bacteria isn't always as bad as it seems.
