pink roses in
her hair, her hands stroking
icily the kitten
sleeping on her lap,

the bunny gropes blindly
for a burning reason
to continue to call "darling"
the paralysed mass

of blubber on the bed
where once she watched him
drown and did nothing,
she recalled her grief,

her humiliation, and with it
all she once desired,
she began to reason
it was all a sacrifice

she'd doomed herself to make,
she turned him to his side
and allowed the moon,
her real sweetheart, to set
