Mothers of Ruin (Six Eastern Kings)


Five mother-cities weep
their burnt-out hearts consumed
by grief as their beloved sons
soot-faced murder one another
while their five lying kings
persecute instead their own
rough sworn officers for trying
to arrest that bleeding tide.

Those same dishonest five
grin as they pretend to count
their mother-cities’ plague-dim tears
falsely to elect a sixth
their King of Kings against all evidence
of fraudulence.

But is their true king
Brandon the Imbecile whom they acclaimed
or the sorrel Toad of Hungary
face lined like anarch Thanatos
who bought their offices for them
and this performance?
