Hey Paul-
I almost never title haiku type poems, but now that I've done it I can't take it back. "DC" is a pretty shitty title, and it can't help but produce reactions that I should've predicted. For those of us who were born in DC, and still live in the area, it is a much, much different place than the one that occupies the imaginations of so many people. You are quite right that the title is cheating, and it was a mistake.
Regarding "woodwinds"- language conveys different different images within peoples' minds. Having played in a woodwind section, it definitely swayed my word choice. I say this, not to defend or explain my poem, but to indicate that I certainly understand that words that are clear in the mind of a writer are not always so clear to the reader. That is the chance that we all take in this thing called poetry, and the shorter the poem, the more risk every word presents. The demands of the short form are probably why I like it so much.
As always, I appreciate your honesty, and take it constructively.
Thanks for reading and commenting,
Mark
