First Day

First Day

Today is a big one,
my first stroll into pre-k.
Standing for moms phone,
smiling for a picture
on my first day.

There is a speaker above,
in the corner of the room.
"Best place, to learn",
why I'm here I presume.

Soon I meet my teacher,
she gave me a look,
that I did not ignore.

A noise shocked me,
a noise going directly to my head,
A siren going on, again and again.
A siren that will not leave my head.

I am told to get under the desk,
also told that is not a test.
Thinking all I needed to was my best,
to get through pre-k.

The boy had no clue,
today was
a live-shooter drill day.
