Listen, Clever Clogs
 
This is what happens
when genius forgets itself;
 
when unrepentant clever
forsakes and is forsaken.
 
It's cold outside.
 
The only hope
is in implosion-
 
a Hail Mary
by any name.

I went in different angles while reading this poem. I didn't know Clever Clogs was a term, and only learned so by googling. Right off I thought forsakes and is forsaken is very harsh and judgemental. So I thought about clogs, like in plumbing, then I thought about clogs, wooden shoes. Then I thought about someone standing on the porch in the cold, locked out, realizing he had lost his key. Having to cave and call his wife or significant other to get back in the house.
