To Cedar Acres
It was funny this evening
when home I came crawling;
I found on the doorstep
a letter.
It said you were gone.
Taken away, for money.
The jokers foretold that you'd die
for anything less than all that I had.
You were bad, they told,
and so they sent your toe in toilet paper
that I trembling took, unwrapped, and
-- laughed!
Long I laughed!
But once I finally calmed I turned again
to that dreaded letter, addressed --
I saw --
to a home in Cedar MEADOWS,
whose mistress painted polka dots across her nails,
while yours you painted bright yellow!
