Thats not so. That tax was mearly hidden and we still pay it today. There is no reason for this tax. The reasoning for it in the first plase was to pay down the deficit at which point it was promised to be removed. We were lied to. They mearly change names years down the road and disguise these tax's as something else. Before long people will no longer remember what they are actually paying. We currently pay almost 40 cents out of every dollar spent at the gas pumps in Canada on hidden tax's. Gas here is about 1 dollar per liter and that does not include the GST. Anyway this is getting a bit off topic VF, The discussion is about VAT in the states.
