Ah, no! The character is a god and while erthona may think highly of himself, he is no god.
The title is only an allusion to a creation story, this is not allegory.

The main character is in isolation. He is a god. He has dark moods because he is separated from his fellow gods. Being a god he is talking in more than just metaphor as he can create these moods into beings and interact with them. Plus you have to admit it is a nicely composed line.
