I agree. A nice image, but one too "telly" (tells too much) as they say. Needs to give the reader something to do/think about/imagine. 

L3 saying something like "have you seen Rocky?" or something that is not a direct reveal of the whodunnit, would give the reader some thinking/imagining room. Was it a toddler? a mad uncle? a cat? a dog? 

Let 'em wonder a bit.
