hello
i must say, i have never really thought about this before. i can't help thinking that it doesn't really have anything to do with the area of skill or skill level, but rather the individual. some people just think they are superior: 'dick heads' i think is the technical term for them. there is possibly a more noticeable number of these types in poetry simply because poetry isn't very popular, and there is this perception of poetry as being somehow intellectual and grand and heavy and deep and niche, etc. a catalogue of attributes that are going to attract a certain type of person: dick heads [not exclusively, of course
].
actually, the more i think about it, how many famous poets are known for their good character and virtue of humility? didn't most of them die face down in a puddle of their own self-absorbed misery?
anyway, there's also a bit of a poetry/geek crossover... and you know how those cats can be.
