The only thing I have ever tried to do with poetry is to make something I like.
I like disgusting things just as much as I like beautiful things, I like the way a really sad song can make me feel shitty, etc etc.
I think poetry is generally more of a reflection of the world as it is, rather than some kind of an attempt to make it better.
There are beautiful things, terrible things, and mundane things, and all of them should be celebrated.
