I Cannot Tell a Lie


Leave the cherry blossoms to the wind
for the tree is not truly fallen;
its roots reach into our hearts.
Read my lips: no new taxes
will be needed to replant.
I would never use any weapon
of mass destruction to have sexual relations
with that woman.
The glint off the ground
is not a crescent blade,
but a trick of the light—
nothing more.
 

Great to see you back, Todd.  This is a definite reminder of how distinctive you r voice is.  It reminds me of  another poem you wrote a while back.
