Distracted Writing
#1
Usually when I write, I'm doing some sort of unrelated work with 75 % of my mind (typically studying), and not really "thinking" about writing with the other 25 %, but more so just having whatever idea I want to write about (I have a list of ideas for poems) sit in the back of my mind. As I do the other work, occasionally something interesting will pop into my mind and I'll switch word documents and write it down. Then later on, I'll read it all, cut all the "bad ideas" and try and fit everything together into one cohesive work.

As my exams just ended about a week ago, I've got a lot of free time, so I decided I'd try and write a lot this break. Without studying to distract my mind though, I've found it's much harder to write as I'm always over thinking things. There seems to be way more "stupid" thoughts, and I'm immediately deleting at least 80 % of what I write down. Sitting at the computer staring at a blank document is infuriating... does anyone else find they need something to distract them from thinking about writing in order to write?

If so, what do you find works well? TV and music certainly haven't helped me much.

One thing I've found works sometimes is getting stoned, but I can't get stoned at home.
