Poems that i love?
Just about anything by Stephen Crane.
Have you ever made a just man?
hits you like a punch to the stomach.
The first six lines of Once there was a man
remind me of way too many people I know & of how I do not want to be.
The livid lightnings flashed in the clouds
is simply wonderful.

Just about anything by Stephen Crane.
Have you ever made a just man?
Quote:"Have you ever made a just man?"
"Oh, I have made three," answered God,
"But two of them are dead,
And the third --
Listen! Listen!
And you will hear the thud of his defeat."
hits you like a punch to the stomach.
The first six lines of Once there was a man
Quote:Once there was a man -
Oh, so wise!
In all drink
He detected the bitter,
And in all touch
He found the sting.
At last he cried thus:
'There is nothing -
No life,
No joy,
No pain -
There is nothing save opinion,
And opinion be damned.'
remind me of way too many people I know & of how I do not want to be.
The livid lightnings flashed in the clouds
Quote:The livid lightnings flashed in the clouds;
The leaden thunders crashed.
A worshipper raised his arm.
"Hearken! Hearken! The voice of God!"
"Not so," said a man.
"The voice of God whispers in the heart
So softly
That the soul pauses,
Making no noise,
And strives for these melodies,
Distant, sighing, like faintest breath,
And all the being is still to hear."
is simply wonderful.
