Are the earbuds only broken in the physical sense and still emitting music, and the water is mixed in to the music like frogs or sheep can be for instance?. I'm intrigued by the notion of mixing frogs and sheep into music.
Maybe the earbuds are a metaphysically mixed metaphor that was broken
by the last straw as it slurped watery frogs playing musical sheep.
