Back to the question, I would be willing to say "crazy" people are affected in their perceptions of the world. In a less debilitating sense so are unconventional Walter Mitty types. They may blend in but their inner life is radically different than those around them.
Unconventional thinker probably gets you there.
If average people are by definition average, then unconventional might be one standard deviation. Crazy might be two. You probably only need one, and two or more is likely to affect function.
